Choosing one door over another does not alter one's destination in a significant manner. It might give the illusion of free will, but the destination will be just as confining regardless of the path chosen.

My mind is a wall
I once thought
of an old girlfriend
and made up a new nickname for her
one that she would
never hear me say in a passionate moment
but just for my own personal use
while I refined
my memories to bolster my historical fantasy.

A Golden Road
As a gallantly young man I
pretended that there was opportunity
to express my chivalrous nature
behind each tree in the forest
behind my house.
The numerous opportunities
meant that I was very busy
rescuing the helpless and infirm
from the wrath of an unnamed evil.
One day I walked
into the woods
but found no innocents behind a tree
waiting for a rescue
and the nameless evil
seemed fearful as a harvest mouse.
